New School Accepting Applications

Print

There’s a new school in town … Christel House Academy West will open in August 2014 as a K-2 elementary school and will grow one grade level per year.

Christel House Academy West is now accepting applications for the 2014-15 school year! Families with K-2 students may pick up an application in person at the Christel House Academy West temporary office, located at 2232 W. Michigan St., or visit the website at CHAcademy.org.

Christel House Academy West will open on the old Central State Hospital grounds on the near west side in August 2014. Located at Washington and Tibbs in Indianapolis, the new, tuition-free charter school will initially serve students K-2 and plans to be an anchor in the new Central Greens development.

Applications must be returned to the temporary enrollment office listed above or Christel House Academy South, located at 2717 S. East St. in Indianapolis.

Forms must be returned by March 31 to ensure participation in the spring lottery. Forms returned after March 31 will be placed on a waiting list if no openings are available. Hand delivering applications is encouraged.

Admission into Christel House Academy West will be determined by a public lottery drawing held in April 2014.

“The addition of this new public charter school will allow Christel House to reach another high-needs area in Indianapolis and give quality education options to at-risk children,” said Carey Dahncke, director and chief academic officer, Christel House Academy. “Our small school approach keeps students and parents connected to teachers,” Dahncke said.

Under the award-winning arm of Christel House Academy, Christel House Academy West is authorized by the Mayor of Indianapolis to serve urban students. For more information, please visit www.chacademy.org.

Learn How to Start a Charter School

Client charterschoolsrock[1]Indiana Public Charter Schools Association (IPCSA) is hosting Charter 101, a basic introduction to the process of starting a charter school in Indiana, on March 7, 6 p.m., at the IPCSA office, 407 Fulton St., Suite 301. There is no charge to attend this session.

“Starting a charter school is a rigorous and daunting process requiring a team effort, diverse skills and talents, commitment and hard work. “The Indiana Public Charter Schools Association is committed to the development of high-performing public charter schools and offers Charter 101 as an introduction to these processes,” Simnick adds.

Some of the topics to be covered during the free session include Indiana’s charter school law, the relationship between the authorizer and organizer, funding and timelines. Light appetizers will be served.
